The SYS5-40P 1500V DC surge protective device, supplied by China-based
manufacturer Zhejiang Soutya New Energy LLC, is a 500–1500 V DC, T2-class
SPD with 40 kA maximum discharge current and ≤5.2 kV voltage-protection
level, featuring a fail-safe thermal disconnect and change-over remote
signalling contact for SCADA integration, engineered for surge immunity in
utility-scale PV arrays, containerized BESS and high-power EV charging
infrastructure.
Application scenarios
1.Utility-scale 1500 V solar farms
Inside the DC cabinet of 3.3 MW inverter stations, one SPD per MPPT input
protects against direct and indirect lightning. The 5.2 kV protection level
meets 6 kV insulation coordination, while the remote-contact output feeds
the plant SCADA for centralized surge monitoring.
2.Containerized BESS (2–5 MWh)
On the 1200–1500 V battery cluster bus, the SPD is rail-mounted beside
fuses; its thermal disconnect dry-contact is looped into the PCS
emergency-stop circuit, instantly blocking the converter if the SPD fails
and preventing arc propagation.
3.1500 V ultra-fast charging hubs ≥360 kW
Both the rectifier cabinet 1500 V bus and the 1000 V battery swap truck
circuit are paralleled with SPDs, limiting 2 kV/µs steep-front surges from
high-power contactors and safeguarding 1700 V IGBT modules.
4.Agro-PV tracker systems in mountainous terrain
Tracker motor feeders (1000 V) run alongside 1500 V strings for long
distances; the SPD, installed in the tracker junction box, prevents induced
surges from coupling into the strings and avoids PID and combiner-box
insulation breakdown.
5.Offshore PV booster platforms
In the topside 1500 V DC collection panel, nickel-plated copper terminals
with anti-salt-spray coating are used. The remote signal is converted via
fibre-optic to the onshore control centre, enabling real-time surge-status
monitoring 40 km from shore.

Failure Isolation Device
The surge protector is equipped with a failure isolation protection device.
When the protector breaks down due to overheating, this device can
automatically disconnect it from the power grid while providing an
indication signal. When the protector is functioning normally, the indicator
window displays green; after failure isolation, the window displays red.
Alarm Remote Signal Device
The protector can be manufactured with remote signal contacts. This device
includes a set of normally open and normally closed contacts. When the
protector is functioning normally, the normally closed contact is engaged.
If one or more modules of the protector fail, the contact will switch from
normally closed to normally open, activating the normally open contact to
send out a fault signal.
